Service Description

Try your hand at the potter’s wheel in this 7-week pottery course, designed to take you from first steps to finished glazed pieces in a supportive studio environment. SCHEDULE Week 1: Get to grips with wedging and preparing clay, learn the basics of throwing, and begin creating simple cylindrical forms. Week 2: Build confidence at the wheel, focusing on planning shapes and developing techniques to achieve them. Week 3: Learn turning and trimming, adding finishing touches such as foot rings or handles. Week 4: Push your skills further by throwing larger and taller forms. Week 5: Play week — explore techniques in more depth with tutor guidance and time for experimentation. Week 6: Turn your remaining pieces and refine your forms. Week 7: Learn glazing and discover how colour and texture come alive in the final firing. STUDIO & FORMAT Classes are limited to 7 students, ensuring you have your own wheel and plenty of individual attention. Each 3-hour session includes time for making and a 15-minute clean-down at the end. EXPERIENCE LEVEL Suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some throwing experience who want structured practice with support. ATTENDANCE This is a 7-week course where each session builds progressively on the previous week. If you are unable to attend a class, you may book one make-up session during the course. This is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed, as spaces are limited. We recommend attending all sessions where possible to get the most from the course and to ensure continuity in your learning and work. PRICING We use a solidarity pricing system to improve access to pottery. At checkout, choose: Low Income: £210 Standard: £230 Lend a Hand: £250 (supports subsidised places) FINISHED WORK Pieces will be ready for collection approximately 1–2 weeks after the course ends, once firing is complete. WHAT TO WEAR Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting messy. Clay and glaze wash out easily. Please bring an apron if you have one - we also have spares. Participants must be 16+.

Cancellation Policy

You may cancel this course up to 2 weeks before the start date for a full refund. If you cancel between 7 and 14 days before the start date, you'll be entitled to a 50% refund. No refund can be given if within 7 days of the start date. Please contact us if you need to cancel. In the case of extenuating circumstances, we may be able to defer your course.
