Service Description

GUIDED POTTERY: SUPPORTED STUDIO TIME Guided Pottery is a 6-week course for people who already have some experience working with clay and want time, space, and support to develop their own projects. Rather than following set lessons, this course offers structured studio access with a teacher on hand to guide you when you need it. You’ll bring your own ideas and work at your own pace - whether that’s refining throwing or handbuilding skills, troubleshooting forms, or improving glazing results. Teaching is responsive and led by your questions, not a fixed curriculum. HOW IT WORKS: There’s no formal weekly teaching plan. Each session is open studio time with guidance available throughout. The teacher will: - Help you problem-solve technical issues - Offer feedback on form, construction, and surface - Support you with glazing choices and firing considerations - Help you plan projects and workflows across the 4 weeks You’re free to focus on wheel throwing, handbuilding, or a combination of both. WHO IT’S FOR: This course is designed for improvers - people who have some experience making and glazing pottery but don’t feel ready to work completely independently. It’s not suitable for complete beginners or advanced ceramicists seeking specialist instruction. STUDIO & FORMAT: Classes are limited to 8 students, ensuring access to wheels, workspace, and individual support. Each session lasts 3 hours, including clean-up time. Guided Pottery is about momentum and confidence: making regularly, asking the questions that come up in practice, and learning through doing in a calm, supportive environment. SOLIDARITY PRICING To keep pottery accessible, we offer three price options. Please choose the one that best fits your circumstances: Low Income: £180 Standard: £200 Lend a Hand: £2200 (helps subsidise low-income places) FINISHED WORK Students will be able to glaze and fire work throughout the course. 2 kilos of fired work is included in the price and any work fired beyond this will be charged at a rate of £6 per kilo. Your pieces will be ready to collect 1-2 weeks after the course ends, once they’ve had their final firing. WHAT TO WEAR Wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy (clay washes out easily). Bring an apron if you have one - we have spares if not. Please note: Participants must be 16+
