For anyone who's tired of buying their loved ones whatever they can find on the high street, join us to make handmade Christmas gifts! The course will cover three handbuilding techniques, and students can make whatever they wish for a truly personalised set of presents. No experience is needed, and complete beginners are very welcome. SCHEDULE Week 1: Pinch pots Learn the foundations of handbuilding using pinch pot techniques. You'll explore shape, form and texture while creating functional or sculptural pieces. Week 2: Coil pots Work with blending coils of clay to build the walls of your piece, creating larger structures fast. Week 3: Slab building Discover how to roll, cut, shape and join clay slabs to create larger, more structured forms. Week 4: Glazing Glaze your work and discover how different finishes transform through the firing process. WHAT YOU'LL MAKE You could create cups, bowls, plates, candle holders, plant pots, wall pieces, small sculptures or decorative objects. Handbuilding offers plenty of freedom to experiment with both functional and sculptural forms. STUDIO & FORMAT Classes are limited to 10 students, allowing for plenty of individual support in a relaxed studio environment. Each session lasts 3 hours, including clean-up. EXPERIENCE LEVEL Suitable for complete beginners and improvers looking for a refresher covering the full ceramic process. We'll support you to work at your own pace. ATTENDANCE Because this is a short 4-week course, each session covers a different stage of the ceramic process and cannot be repeated. This means that unfortunately, we cannot offer a makeup session if you're unable to attend one week. SOLIDARITY PRICING Low Income: £131 Standard: £146 Lend a Hand: £160 (helps subsidise lower-income places) FINISHED WORK Your course includes up to 2kg of finished fired work. Additional firing is charged at £6 per kg. Pieces are usually ready to collect around one week after the course ends. WHAT TO WEAR Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting clay on. Clay washes out easily. Bring an apron if you have one - we also have spares available. Participants must be 16 or over.
